VETERINARY SERVICES AT LATROBE VETS

Veterinary Services at Latrobe Vets
At Latrobe Vets, we provide high-standard veterinary care for cats, dogs, birds and small pets across the Latrobe Valley.

With a purpose-built hospital, experienced team and a strong focus on practical, compassionate care, we are here to support your pet through every stage of life.

From routine check-ups and vaccinations through to diagnostics, surgery, dentistry, urgent care and long-term health management, our team has the facilities and experience to do more locally. When specialist support is needed, we can also help guide you through the next steps and liaise with referral services where appropriate.

Health Checks

Regular health checks are one of the best ways to keep your pet healthy and comfortable. These visits allow our vets to assess your pet’s overall condition, look for early signs of illness and discuss any changes in behaviour, appetite, mobility or wellbeing.

Even when your pet seems well, a routine visit can help us identify small concerns before they become bigger problems. Read More...

Puppy and Kitten Care

Puppy and Kitten Care

Welcoming a new puppy or kitten is exciting, but it can also come with plenty of questions. Our team is here to guide you through the early stages, including vaccinations, parasite prevention, desexing advice, nutrition, behaviour, socialisation and general healthcare.

We want new pet owners to feel confident from the beginning, with practical advice that suits their individual pet. Read More...

Vaccinations

Vaccinations

Vaccinations help protect pets from serious and preventable diseases. Our vets can recommend the most suitable vaccination schedule based on your pet’s age, lifestyle, health history and risk factors.

Vaccination visits are also an important opportunity to check your pet’s general health, rather than simply giving an injection and sending them on their way. Read More...

Desexing

Desexing

Desexing is a common procedure, but we do not believe common should mean routine care with the corners cut.

Our desexing approach includes careful anaesthetic monitoring, IV fluids, pain relief, nursing care and post-operative support. We also discuss the best timing for your individual pet, as breed, size, sex and development can all influence when desexing may be recommended. Read More...

Surgery

Surgery

Latrobe Vets provides a range of general and soft-tissue surgical services within our purpose-built hospital.

Our team focuses on much more than the procedure itself, with careful planning, anaesthetic monitoring, pain relief, nursing support and attentive recovery care. We also know when a case is better suited to specialist referral and will help guide you through that process where needed. Read More...

Dentistry

Dentistry

Dental disease is very common in pets and can affect far more than just their teeth.

Bad breath, red gums, difficulty chewing, loose teeth and changes in appetite can all be signs that your pet needs dental attention.

Our approach is strongly focused on prevention and early intervention, with dental checks, professional cleaning, digital dental X-rays, treatment of painful teeth and complimentary nurse dental checks available. Read More...

In-House Diagnostics

In-House Diagnostics

When pets are unwell, getting useful information quickly can make a big difference.

Our in-house diagnostic capabilities include blood testing, blood gas analysis, urinalysis, blood pressure monitoring, ultrasound and point-of-care testing.

The real advantage is not simply having the equipment. It is being able to get answers sooner, recognise when a patient may be sicker than they first appear and make more informed decisions about treatment or referral. Read More...

Ultrasound and X-Ray

Ultrasound and X-Ray

Imaging allows our vets to look beneath the surface and better understand what may be happening inside your pet’s body.

X-rays can help assess bones, joints, the chest and abdomen, while ultrasound can provide valuable information about soft tissues and internal organs.

These tools can be especially useful when investigating pain, injury, breathing concerns, abdominal problems, urinary issues and more complex medical cases. Read More...

Urgent and Emergency Veterinary Care

Urgent and Emergency Veterinary Care

During opening hours, our team can help with urgent veterinary concerns including sudden illness, injury, breathing difficulties, collapse, wounds, vomiting, snake bites, rat bait ingestion and other toxin exposure.

Emergency and critical care is an area of significant strength within our team, with extensive experience in emergency medicine, structured triage and recognising the subtle signs that a patient may be becoming critically unwell.

Our hospital is also equipped with in-house diagnostics and monitoring that can help us assess, stabilise and treat urgent patients quickly. If your pet requires 24-hour or specialist emergency care, we will help arrange the appropriate referral. Read More...

Birds, Rabbits and Small Pets

Birds, Rabbits and Small Pets

Alongside cats and dogs, we provide general veterinary care for birds, rabbits and other small pets.

Our team includes a vet with a special interest in avian medicine, giving local bird owners access to valuable experience close to home. We also provide routine rabbit and small-pet care, including health checks, vaccination and assessment of common health concerns.

We are not a specialist exotic-pet clinic, so more complex cases may need referral to a veterinarian with advanced exotic-animal expertise. Read More...

Arthritis and Mobility Care

Arthritis and Mobility Care

Arthritis can affect pets at many stages of life and often begins more subtly than owners expect.

Slowing down, limping, stiffness after rest, reluctance to jump or changes in how a cat moves around the home can all indicate discomfort.

Our approach is proactive. We would rather support mobility early than wait until your pet is struggling to move. Management may include weight support, supplements, exercise changes, pain relief, arthritis treatments and ongoing monitoring. Read More...

Senior Pet Care

Senior Pet Care

Age is not a diagnosis.

As pets get older, they can benefit from more attentive monitoring, not less. Regular senior health checks can help us identify changes in weight, mobility, dental health, behaviour and internal organ function before they become more advanced.

From around seven years of age, annual blood testing may be recommended for some pets. Those living with chronic conditions may also benefit from more frequent reviews so treatment can be adjusted as their needs change.

Our focus is on helping older pets remain comfortable, active and enjoying life. Read More...

Chronic Disease Management

Chronic Disease Management

Some pets need long-term support for ongoing health conditions such as kidney disease, diabetes, heart disease, endocrine conditions, skin problems, arthritis or other complex medical concerns.

Chronic disease management is about regular monitoring, practical treatment plans and clear communication. Our vets work with you to understand your pet’s needs, adjust care as things change and help your pet maintain the best quality of life possible.

Behaviour Support

Behaviour Support

Behaviour concerns can affect both pets and families, and they are often linked to anxiety, fear, pain, past experiences or environmental changes.

If your pet is showing signs of stress, aggression, fear, separation issues or other behavioural challenges, veterinary guidance can be an important first step.

Our team can help assess whether there may be a medical contributor and guide you towards the most appropriate behavioural support. Latrobe Vets also has access to a vet with a special interest in animal behaviour.

End-of-Life Care

End-of-Life Care

Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is one of the hardest decisions a family can face.

Our team is here to support you with compassion, honesty and care, including quality-of-life discussions and gentle end-of-life support when the time comes.

Latrobe Vets is also working towards a dedicated end-of-life space to create a calmer, more private environment for pets and their families. Read More...

Repeat Medication and Food Orders

Repeat Medication and Food Orders

For pets on ongoing medication, prescription diets or regular food orders, we aim to make repeat requests as simple as possible.

Our online request option allows clients to submit medication and food orders without needing to call during busy clinic times.

All repeat medication requests still need to be reviewed by the veterinary team to make sure they remain appropriate for your pet.

GENTLE AND LOW-STRESS VETERINARY CARE

We understand that some pets find veterinary visits overwhelming.

Our team uses gentle handling, calming pheromones, treats and practical adjustments to help pets feel safer and more settled.

We are continuing to improve this area, including plans for safe outdoor consulting space where appropriate.

Happy Visits

We also welcome low-stress Happy Visits, where your pet can simply come into the clinic, have a weigh-in, meet our reception team and enjoy a pat or treat without having anything medical done.

These relaxed visits can help nervous pets become more familiar with the clinic and build positive associations before they need veterinary care.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

We understand that veterinary care can sometimes come at unexpected times.
Latrobe Vets offers flexible payment options to help clients access care for their pets.
